Dreams Don't Work Unless You Do

You know what is ambitious? Doing two day trips in one weekend. Especially when those day trips are Venice and Florence. We don't have a lot of time left so if we want to check off our bucket list items...we have to work.

My friend Enya and I have both been talking about Venice for a long time. We wanted to wait until the weather got a little warmer because we wanted to have a good experience. Last minute we decided that this was our weekend and that we were going to do Venice in a day for logistical reasons. We got in a cab to the station, boarded our train pretty early in the morning and enjoyed our 4 hour ride to Venice.

We arrived early afternoon and couldn't even wait to get out of the station for lunch so we grabbed a slice of pizza in the station and sat on a patio. Once we finally made our way out of the station, there was a canal with boats going down it. It was unreal. We spent the majority of our time just wandering through the streets because every corner there was another canal and it was just fun to explore.

We did go inside a large cathedral called, "Santa Maria Gloriosa" which was interesting to see as any cathedral has been so far.

Then...we went on a gondola tour.

Actual. Dream. Come. True.

Gondola Group 10 (naturally we got the ONLY guide who wasn't wearing stripes)

Enya and I went on a 30 minute tour on a gondola with 4 other people on it. Our tour guide thought it was funny to pretend our gondola was going to tip over by dramatically rocking it and yelling. Well...we actually did find that pretty funny but the older woman on our tour frequently shook her fist at him.

I am convinced the 30 minute tour was actually only 2 minutes because that's what it felt like. We did a loop through a few canals as the sun was just beginning to lower a little. It was one of those experiences that actually lived up to/exceeded my expectations.

We finished off our day with drinks and some bar food at a restaurant alongside the main canal. Our waiter really liked us and sent us off with a bag of free pasta as well.

I got back to Rome, made some pasta, set my alarm for another early morning, and went to bed.
